#3320 TGF-β increase caspase activation and migration in typical bronchial carcinoids
Introduction: Typical bronchial carcinoids (TBC) are well-differentiated neuroendocrine neoplasms (NEN) whose management can still be very challenging due to reduced sensitivity to therapy. Previous studies have reported TGF-β’s ability to activate mTOR pathway and induce epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT). Moreover, preliminary results show an overexpression of TGF-β signalling and caspase activation in TBC.

Introduction: Altered expression of Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1), its receptor (IGF-1R), Connective Tissue Growth Factor (CTGF) and Hypoxia Factor-1 (HIF-1), has been implicated in tumorigenesis. These factors have not been studied systematically in Pulmonary Carcinoids (PCs).

Introduction: MET has shown antitumorigenic effects on DM cancer pts, which are mediated by decrease of insulin/IGF-1 levels and activation of the AMPK pathway leading to mTOR inactivation.

Introduction: Bronchial carcinoids (BC) are rare tumors originating from endocrine cells dispersed in the respiratory epithelium. The main BC treatment is surgery, but which is not feasible for large, infiltrating and metastatic disease. In these settings, medical therapy is often tried. Therefore it is important to identify new therapeutic targets and new molecules capable of providing adequate medical treatment for patients with BC. Sunitinib is an oral, small-molecule, multi-targeted receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor.

Introduction: Several studies have shown altered expression of Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1) and its receptor (IGF-1R) in different types of cancers. Connective Tissue Growth Factor (CTGF) is triggered by Serotonin (5-HT) and Hypoxia Induced Factor 1 (HIF-1) and has been associated with tumor expansion and desmoplastic reaction in carcinoid tumors.
