Effectiveness of Transarterial Embolization in Neuroendocrine Tumors

#519

Introduction: Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) with liver metastases have a poor prognosis. Somatostatin analogues and chemotherapy are used with some success. Transarterial Embolization (TAE) is increasingly used to improve symptom control and reduce tumor size.

Aim(s): To investigate outcome of patients treated with TAE in the last five years.

Materials and methods: We identified all patients who received TAE within the last five years. We looked at case notes for: demographics, type of NET, treatment received and symptoms. We determined the number of TAE treatments per patient, symptoms, biochemical and radiological improvement. Mean survival time defined as from time TAE to date of death or most recent follow-up.
