First Patient Survey about Tumor - Associated Fatigue in NEN

#2296

Introduction: Tumor-associated fatigue (TrF) is a debilitating condition occurring during the course of the tumor disease, and even ongoing after all tumor specific therapies are completed. The syndrome consists of chronic fatigue, sleep disturbances, severe pain, brain-fog and is underestimated by both, patients and doctors. Diagnosis is made according to the criteria by Cella (Cella 2001), although it is felt not to be sufficient.

Aim(s): The purpose of the survey was to figure out the percentage of NEN patients suffering from TrF, to define pre-existing or founding factors leading to fatigue symptoms, to explore the impact on the working capability and the effect of supportive therapies.

Materials and methods: The national German support group “Netzwerk NeT e.V.” conducted together with the scientific support of the Charité the first survey concerning fatigue among NEN patients. It was conducted anonymously by email to all members of the support group via link to the online survey; for patients without email account, the questionnaires were sent by regular mail.
