Neuroendocrine Neoplasms of the Ampulla of Vater: Clinicopathological Analysis of Nine Cases
#729
Introduction: Neuroendocrine neoplasms (NEN) of the ampulla of Vater (AV) are rare and heterogeneous and little is known about their biological behavior.
Aim(s): To evaluate the prognostic significance of the ENETS grading and TNM staging system and the 2010 WHO classification.
Materials and methods: A total of nine patients with neuroendocrine neoplasms of the ampulla of Vater treated with surgery at a single center were retrospectively analyzed over a 13-year period. Based on grading scheme with mitotic count and Ki-67 index, the ENETS system identifies three tumor categories: grade 1 (Ki67 <2%), grade 2 (K-i67 2-20%) and grade 3 (Ki-67 >20%). The 2010 WHO classification distinguishes between well-differentiated tumors (NET) grade 1 or 2 and poorly differentiated carcinomas (NEC) grade 3.
