Thrombotic Risk in Gastroenteropancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors: A Single Centre Experience


Introduction: Neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) comprise a heterogeneous group of neoplasms associated with paraneoplastic syndromes. Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a frequent complication in neoplastic patients and it is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Aim(s): To retrospectively evaluate the incidence of VTE in GEP-NEN

Materials and methods: From 2000 to 2016 all the patients diagnosed with GEP-NEN at our Institution were retrospectively evaluated. Major thrombotic events were: deep venous thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). 162 patients (71 males, median age 64 years) were included. The site of primary tumor was the gut in 92, the pancreas in 54 and unknown in 6. Grading was G1 in 89 case, G2 in 34, G3 in 5 (not available in 4). TNM stage was I in 63 patients, II in 14, III in 20 and IV in 38
