#2844 Rectal Neuroendocrine Tumor with Chromogranin Expression Is Associated with Aggressive Clinical Behavior and Worse Prognosis
Introduction: Although rectal neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) with L-cell phenotype and small tumor size generally had better clinical behavior, the new 2019 WHO classification classified all rectal NETs are malignant without considering L-cell phenotype and small tumor size. Therefore, identifying biomarkers of rectal NETs is important to stratify the clinical behavior of rectal NETs.

#151 Rationale for combining mTOR with other targeted agents in the treatment of neuroendocrine tumors
Introduction: Advanced neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are aggressive and incurable with standard treatment. Many cellular targets are being evaluated in this patient population, including mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), a kinase that is the central regulator of several signaling pathways related to cell growth, angiogenesis, and bioenergetics. Because mTOR serves as a neoplastic switch activated by many cancer-related mutations, mTOR inhibition may have broad efficacy across tumor types, including NETs. Somatostatin analogs (SSAs) have long been used to treat carcinoid symptoms in NET patients. The SSA octreotide long-acting release (LAR) demonstrated significant antitumor effects against advanced midgut NETs in the phase III PROMID study.

#427 Gastric Carcinoids: Prevalence in Europe and USA, and Rationale for Treatment with YF476, a Gastrin Receptor Antagonist
Introduction: Gastric carcinoids (GC) are tumors arising from enterochromaffin-like (ECL) cells in the gastric mucosa. Most are caused by hypergastrinaemia, which stimulates ECL-cell growth. YF476 is a potent, selective and orally active gastrin receptor antagonist in humans in vitro and in vivo. YF476 prevented and caused shrinkage of GC in animal models of the condition.

#463 Primary Neuroendocrine Tumor of the Parathyroid
Introduction: Parathyroids are derived from third and fourth branchial pouches and neuroendocrine C-cells originate for neighboring fifth branchial pouch. A close ontogenic relation between these embryonal pouches is illustrated in DiGeorge syndrome wherein there is an absence of parathyroid glands and C-cells. It is not known for certain if normal parathyroids contain NE cells. However, NETs of the parathyroid have been reported in two other cases (Medline search: 1966-2011).
