Introduction: Forkheadbox proteins (Fox proteins) are transcriptions factors. They are highly conserved key players in a large number of cellular processes. Fox proteins have been described as acting as both tumor suppressors and oncogenes. Most notably, they operate in the context of the majority of cancer-related pathways. Information about the fuunction of these proteins in gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasias is scant.

#2983 Differential TGF-β Signalling in Typical and Atypical Bronchial Carcinoids
Introduction: Typical and atypical bronchial carcinoids (TBC and ABC) are well-differentiated neuroendocrine neoplasms (NEN). Metastatic BC having low to moderate mitotic count may still be treated with somatostatin analogues and mTOR inhibitors; however, TBC and ABC have been reported to respond very differently to therapy and an effective treatment algorithm is still lacking. TGF-β is known for its ability to activate mTOR pathway and induce epithelial mesenchymal transition, affecting cell pathophysiological capabilities such as proliferation, migration and tissue invasiveness.

#2986 Characterization of 142 Human Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors: ATRX and DAXX Correlation with Clinical-Pathological Data
Introduction: Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PNETs) are rare and heterogeneous neoplasms with a 10-year survival rate less than 30%. Up to 43% of them are driven by inactivating mutations in ATRX or DAXX. These are important players at chromatin remodeling, that when mutated prone cancer cells to initiate the alternative lengthening of telomeres (ALT). ALT phenotype correlates with in situ loss of expression of the proteins ATRX or DAXX and can be corroborated by telomere-FISH.

Introduction: Patients with neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are at risk for vitamin deficiencies and poor nutritional status due to excessive serotonin production, diarrhea, previous gastrointestinal surgery, and/or treatment with somatostatin analogues (SSA). Little knowledge exists about vitamin deficiency and how patients should be supported for the deficiencies they develop during their long-lasting disease.

#2964 Personalized Therapy in a Case of Esophageal NEC Based on Tumor Genome Sequencing
Introduction: High-grade esophageal neuroendocrine carcinomas (NEC) constitute a rare subgroup of neuroendocrine neoplasms, with a particularly aggressive behaviour and unfavourable prognosis. To date, there are no validated biomarkers for personalized therapy and cytotoxic chemotherapy remains the standard of care. However, tumor genome sequencing may help improve NEC molecular landscape knowledge in order to identify novel targets for an individualized approach.

#12 Chromogranin A as a predictor of progression, regression or stable disease in ileo-cecal (midgut) carcinoid tumors
Introduction: A general characteristic for NETs is their expression of certain proteins, such as chromogranin A (CgA), which is released from the dense core vesicles of NE cells, occasionally together with cell specific hormones, such as gastrin and serotonin. Plasma CgA seems to be closely related to tumor burden of intestinal carcinoid tumors in humans.
