#21 Peptide Receptor Radioligand Therapy (PRRT) is an Effective Treatment for the Long-Term Stabilization of Malignant Gastrinomas
Introduction: Gastrinomas represent a rare group of neuroendocrine tumors usually located in the duodenum or pancreas. They secrete gastrin, which is responsible for the clinical picture of severe acid-related peptic disease and diarrhea, known as the Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (ZES). While symptomatic control may be achieved with proton-pump inhibitors (PPIs) and somatostatin analogues (SSAs) treatment, little data is known regarding the possible anti-tumor effect of the peptide receptor radioligand therapy (PRRT) in gastrinoma patients.

#30 Diffuse Idiopathic Pulmonary Neuroendocrine Cell Hyperplasia
Introduction: Normal adult lungs contain scattered pulmonary neuroendocrine cells (PNEC). Reactive PNEC hyperplasia is commonly observed in persons who live at high altitude, in cigarette smokers, and in numerous lung diseases. Diffuse Idiopathic Pulmonary Neuroendocrine Cell Hyperplasia (DIPNECH) is a rare entity in which PNEC hyperplasia appears without predisposing conditions. According to the 1999 WHO lung tumor classification, DIPNECH is thought to be primarily a neuroendocrine proliferative process, which can be associated with carcinoid tumors and with a clinical picture of constrictive obliterative bronchiolitis. To date, available data regarding the treatment and the prognosis of this rare condition is limited.

#48 Preliminary report of the use of everolimus in a patient with progressive medullary thyroid carcinoma
Introduction: Medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) accounts for about 5-10% of all thyroid cancers, and while disease localized to the thyroid can be cured by surgery, there is no effective treatment for disseminated MTC. Constitutive activation of the RET proto-oncogene is implicated in familial and a proportion of sporadic cases, and up-regulates the AKT/PI3-kinase/mTOR signal transduction pathway. Recent studies have shown that the inhibitor of mTOR, everolimus (RAD001, Novartis, Basel), can inhibit the proliferation of the TT cell line and human MTC tumor cells in vitro. Clinically, everolimus has been shown to attenuate the progression of some gastrointestinal neuroendocrine tumors, but its clinical use in MTC has not yet been evaluated.

#478 Right Hemicolectomy in the Treatment of Patients with Appendiceal Neuroendocrine Tumors: Does Size Matter?
Introduction: A recent study of a small series of patients with appendiceal neuroendocrine tumors (ANETs) fulfilling various criteria for right hemicolectomy (RHC) revealed that approximately 25% may harbor identifiable extra-appendiceal disease. The residual disease might not have been detected using the latest European Neuroendocrine Tumors Society (ENETS) revised pathological criteria.

#606 Laparoscopic Resection of Primary Midgut Carcinoid Tumors
Introduction: Laparoscopic intestinal surgery is the preferable technique in the majority of intestinal surgical disorders. However, there is no series reported to date on laparoscopic resection of intestinal midgut carcinoid tumors (MCT) due to the rarity as well as the technical difficulties in resection of the large mesenteric root lymph node mass commonly found in these tumors, and the occasional difficulty in identifying the primary MCT. This is the first series reporting the results of laparoscopic resection of MCT.

#815 The Effect of Autophagy Inhibitors Alone or in Combination with mTOR Inhibitors in a Neuroendocrine Tumor Cell Model
Introduction: Most patients with neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) require systemic treatment, often with a limited therapeutic effect. RAD001 and Torin1 are mTOR inhibitors (mTORi) known to suppress cell proliferation in NETs. However, cancer cells may use mTORi-induced autophagy to escape the anti-proliferative effect and to prolong cell survival. Chloroquine (CQ) and hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) inhibit autophagy.
