#151 Rationale for combining mTOR with other targeted agents in the treatment of neuroendocrine tumors
Introduction: Advanced neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are aggressive and incurable with standard treatment. Many cellular targets are being evaluated in this patient population, including mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), a kinase that is the central regulator of several signaling pathways related to cell growth, angiogenesis, and bioenergetics. Because mTOR serves as a neoplastic switch activated by many cancer-related mutations, mTOR inhibition may have broad efficacy across tumor types, including NETs. Somatostatin analogs (SSAs) have long been used to treat carcinoid symptoms in NET patients. The SSA octreotide long-acting release (LAR) demonstrated significant antitumor effects against advanced midgut NETs in the phase III PROMID study.

#2195 Audit of a New Nurse-Led Non-Medical Prescribing (NMP) Clinic for Systemic Anti-Cancer Agents (SACTs)
Introduction: The number of people living with cancer in the UK continues to rise with increased demands on specialist cancer care services. NET incidence and prevalence increases alongside this demand. NETs remain a rare cancer with specialist needs. The clinical nurse specialist (CNS) is ideally placed to support these patients. Oncology clinics are increasingly pressured, the need to think of innovative ways of reducing strain whilst maintaining and enhancing the patients experience is important. To address this we set up a nurse-led SACT NMP clinic alongside the oncology clinic to improve patient experience and reduce oncologist clinic review.

Introduction: Among the therapeutic options available for the treatment of neuroendocrine tumors, one targeted therapy, everolimus (RAD) has been approved for advanced progressive pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (pNETs). It improve progression free survival but is not curative. Alterations of the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway in pNETs have given the rational for the use of this signaling pathway inhibitors.
