#70 The validity of Ki-67 as a prognostic indicator in patients with appendiceal carcinoid tumor
Introduction: Carcinoid tumors of the appendix are rare and often discovered incidentally through appendectomy. Most are clinically benign but may be associated with metastatic disease. Ki-67, a nuclear protein structurally associated with chromatin, is an excellent marker for measuring cell proliferation and it has been shown to correlate with the outcome in pancreatic and ileocecal carcinoids.

Introduction: The plasma chromogranin A (CgA) is the best general biomarker in gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP-NETs). CrA levels are elevated in a variety of GEP-NETs and are used to aid in diagnosis, prognosis, and monitoring of treatment effects in this population.

#29 Serum chromogranin A correlation with tumor burden in metastatic small bowel carcinoid patients
Introduction: Patients with neuroendocrine tumors may have clinical courses that range from fairly indolent to more aggressive. Cross–sectional studies, nuclear imaging and biochemical markers are often used to monitor disease progression. Optimal surveillance tests and intervals have not been firmly established. Studies suggest that chromogranin A (CgA) may be a surrogate marker for tumor burden.

#40 Clinical and prognostic implications of the genetic diagnosis of hereditary NET syndromes in asymptomatic patients
Introduction: Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are rare neoplasms, heterogeneous, and with variable biological behavior. NETs can be sporadic or they can arise in complex endocrine hereditary syndromes such as Multiple Endocrine Neoplasias (MEN), Familial Paragangliomatosis (FPGL), Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1), von Hippel-Lindau Disease (VHL), Tuberous Sclerosis (TSC) and Carney Complex (CC). By performing genetic screening, patients with hereditary NETs can be identified before the development of tumors.

#513 Correlation Between mTOR Pathway and Clinical Outcomes in Patients with Well-Differentiated Neuroendocrine Tumors Treated with Everolimus
Introduction: Everolimus has been studied in preclinical and clinical settings, showing it to be active and effective. Tumors exhibiting the constitutively activated phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase-AKT-mTOR (PI3K/AKT/mTOR) pathway, are potentially susceptible to mTOR inhibitors. Even though Everolimus is both an antiproliferative and anti-angiogenic drug, we do not know the possible prognostic or predictive role of p-mTOR pathway.
