#355 MicroRNA Signatures as Novel Biomarkers in Small Intestine Neuroendocrine Tumors
Introduction: Small intestine (SI) neuroendocrine tumors (NET) arise from serotonin-producing intraepithelial cells in the SI referred to as enterochromafin cells. The detection of SI-NETs is often concomitant with the appearance of hepatic metastasis thus most patients with SI-NET have metastases at initial presentation. MicroRNAs (miRs) are post-transcriptional key regulators in tumorigenesis which regulate expression of other genes. Little evidence of miR expression or deregulation in SI-NETs has been reported.

#2739 Epigenetic Landscape of Pancreatic Neuro-Endocrine Tumors Reveals Distinct Cells of Origin and Means of Tumor Progression
Introduction: Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors (PanNETs) arise from cells of the Islets of Langerhans. The majority of PanNETs are non-functional and their cell of origin cannot be defined analysing specific hormone production. Cell of origin assessment has proven importance to identify risk factors, prevent tumour development, and tailor treatment in many malignancies. Recent data on super-enhancer signatures has suggested a potential origin of PanNET from α- or β-cells. We and others have shown that distinct epigenetic profiles assessed by DNA methylation (DNAme) characterize genomic and prognostic groups of PanNET.

#423 Case Report : A Rare Cause of Retroperitoneal Fibrosis Responding to Steroids
Introduction: Retroperitoneal fibrosis is a rare inflammatory disease. Neuroendocrine tumors are a heterogenous group that arise from enterochromaffin cells, most commonly in the gastrointestinal tract. Their capacity to secrete hormones, five HT, tachykinins etc, are responsible for symptoms known as carcinoid syndrome. However NETS, particularly arising from the midgut, can cause fibrosis. This can result in bowel obstruction, but also cause fibrosis in the retroperitoneum, lungs and cardiac valvular fibrosis.
