Introduction: NET pts have high rates of mortality and morbidity, as wells as decreased health-related quality of life (HRQoL) due to CS. Though there is little research on the economic impact of CS, recent studies show that some symptoms, i.e. diarrhoea, are associated with higher healthcare expenditure and use of resources.

#3041 Resource Use in Patients with Carcinoid Syndrome: A Retrospective Analysis Using the French Health Insurance National (SNDS) Database
Introduction: About 20% of patients (pts) with neuroendocrine tumors (NET) suffer from carcinoid syndrome (CS), mainly from ileum and lung NET. Pts with CS experience symptoms such as diarrhea, flushes and cardiac complications. The diarrhea occurs in almost all pts with CS and can be truly debilitating. Therefore, on top of the tumor, the burden of the symptoms further impairs quality of life and is associated with additional costs related to symptom management and pts follow-up.

#2969 Lanreotide Autogel and Octreotide LAR Treatment Patterns: Results from a Nationwide French Retrospective Study
Introduction: Lanreotide autogel (LAN) and octreotide LAR (OCT) are long acting somatostatin analogues (LA-SSAs) used to treat acromegaly and gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP-NETs). Previous studies conducted in North America and Sweden showed some differences between both LA-SSAs in terms of dose and persistence.

#2017 Data on Healthcare Resource Utilization (HCRU) and Treatment Modalities in Patients (Pts) with Advanced (adv), Well-Differentiated (WD) Neuroendocrine Tumors (NETs) of Gastrointestinal (GI) or Lung Origin in Finland
Introduction: The majority of all NETs develop in the GI tract and about one third develop in the lungs; approximately 43% and 51% of pts, respectively, are diagnosed with adv disease (regional or distant metastasis). While GI and lung NETs are rare, their incidence has increased markedly over the past four decades. The severe and progressive nature of adv NET suggests significant costs for pts and payers.

#728 NETworking-The First Three Years of the World NET Cancer Awareness Day Alliance
Introduction: Neuroendocrine tumors have an incidence of 3-5/100,000 per year, however, many patients are diagonosed late in their clinical course resulting in poor outcomes and early death. Raising awareness of the myriad presenting symptoms with resultant early diagnosis is a priority health care initiative for this disease. In 2010, the World NET Cancer Day Awareness (WNCAD) Alliance was formed with the primary mission to raise awareness of neuroendocrine tumors and promote November 10 as World NET Cancer Awareness Day

#128 Multidisciplinary reference centers: the need for combined expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of neuroendocrine tumors
Introduction: Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are a heterogeneous group of malignancies with increasing incidence (Yao et al. J Clin Oncol 2008;26:3063–72). Multidisciplinary reference centers (MRCs) can potentially offer better clinical outcomes by integrating and coordinating expert care from many specialties, reducing delays in treatments and referrals, and allowing for accrual to clinical trials. MRCs have achieved improved outcomes in ovarian, breast and lung cancers (Pollock. Ann Surg 2008;248:510–6; Gabel et al. Cancer 1997;79:2380–4; Forrest et al. Br J Cancer 2005;93:977–8). Despite this, MRCs focusing on NETs are uncommon.

#861 Targeted Next Generation Sequencing in the Screening for Familial Neuroendocrine Tumor Syndromes: A Tool for Personalized Medicine
Introduction: Multiple syndromes are described as conferring susceptibility to NETs; MEN1 & 2, NF1, familial PGL 1-5, TSC, VHL and germline mutations in the HIF2A, MAX, or TMEM127. Genetic testing covering these diagnoses may be extensively resource-demanding using traditional techniques due to the large extent of these loci.
