Introduction: Patients with rapidly progressing neuroendocrine tumors presenting with high tumor load and/or severe clinical syndromes are clinically challenging and with limited life expectany. Peptide receptor radiotherapy (PRRT) and transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) have demonstrated efficacy in the treatment of neuroendocrine tumors. However, there are no reports that both therapies have been applied in combination.

Introduction: Liver metastases are relatively common in patients with metastatic medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), carrying a negative impact on disease prognosis. The options for selective therapy of liver metastases in MTC patients are limited to catheter guided procedures such as trans-arterial chemoembolization (TACE). Data regarding the effectiveness and safety of this procedure in MTC is limited.

#109 Transarterial chemoebolization (TACE) of liver metastases derived from neuroendocrine tumors is an effective treatment only in patients with low or mediate hepatic tumor burden
Introduction: The onset of metastases in patients with neuroendocrine tumors of the gastrointestinal tract (GEP-NET) represents a negative predictor of survival and tumor-associated complications. Thereby, most of these patients develop liver metastases during their disease. Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) has been shown before to be an effective and safe treatment of liver metastases. However, the optimal time point in treatment of liver metastases has not yet been determined, especially in patients with non-functional GEP-NET.
