#104 Myocardial motion abnormalities in patients with carcinoid disease without overt carcinoid heart disease
Introduction: Cardiac abnormalities occur in 15-70% of patients with carcinoid disease, typified by fibrosis of the right-sided valves. Myocardial motion abnormalities in subjects without overt carcinoid heart disease have not been previously described. Tissue Doppler Imaging (TDI) allows quantative analysis of myocardial motion. We used this technique to investigate whether myocardial motion is reduced, suggesting fibrosis, in patients with carcinoid disease.

#740 Heterotopic Pancreatic Tissue Located in the Subserosa of the Jejunum: A Case Report
Introduction: Ectopic pancreas is defined as pancreatic tissue in an abnormal location with no ductal, anatomical, neuronal or vascular communication with the main body of the pancreas. The incidence of heterotopic pancreas in autopsy studies is approximately 0.6 - 15%, while the clinical incidence is 1 in 500 laparotomies. Ectopic pancreatic tissue can be present anywhere along the gastrointestinal tract.

Introduction: Peptide receptor targeting has proven to be a pivotal tool for diagnostic imaging and radioligand therapy of neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs), which frequently express somatostatin receptors (SSTRs) on their cell surface. However, up to 30 % of NEN patients do not benefit from SSTR-based approaches, others develop a resistance.

#47 Plasma CCN2/connective tissue growth factor is associated with right ventricular dysfunction in Patients with Neuroendocrine Tumors
Introduction: Carcinoid heart disease (CHD) is a known complication of neuroendocrine tumors (NETs), particularly of those arising from the small intestine, appendix and proximal colon (previously known as mid-gut carcinoids). CHD is characterized by right heart fibrotic lesions and has traditionally been defined by the degree of valvular involvement, most commonly in the form of tricuspid regurgitation. Right ventricular (RV) dysfunction due to mural involvement may also be a manifestation. Connective tissue growth factor (CCN2) is upregulated in many fibrotic disorders. Increased tumor expression of CCN2 has been shown in patients with small intestinal NETs associated with peritoneal fibrosis. At present, its role in carcinoid heart disease is unknown.

Introduction: Ultrasound is the virtual representation of the morphology of organs and tissues. Endoscopic ultrasound can be used in detailed scanning of pancreas and preoperative topical diagnostics of insulinomas. Insulinoma requires surgical treatment in all cases. This fact allows control of preoperative diagnostic methods.

#946 Immunohistochemical Staining of Catecholamine-Synthesizing Enzymes in Head and Neck Paraganglioma Tissue
Introduction: Head and neck paragangliomas (HNPGLs) are non-producing neuroendocrine tumors, alhough 19-28% of patients have an increased dopamine production. The high sensitivity of 18F-DOPA PET also shows that these tumors might be able to synthesize catecholamines.
