Carcinoid Metastases to the Breast: More Common than Previously Thought. A Presentation of 13 Cases
#247
Introduction: Metastases from carcinoid tumors to the breast have been described as a rare phenomenon. Presentation and cytopathologic findings of these tumors can closely mimic that of a mammary carcinoma.
Aim(s): To identify patients with confirmed carcinoid metastatic to the breast and review clinical, radiological and cytopathological findings.
Materials and methods: We have performed a retrospective review of patients with carcinoid tumors treated at Uppsala University Hospital, Uppsala, Sweden. Specimens from available metastatic lesions were stained for neuroendocrine and breast cancer markers.
