Chromogranin B is a Prognostic Marker in NETs

#294

Introduction: Chromogranin B (CgB) co-localizes with Chromogranin A (CgA) in the secretory granules of neuroendocrine cells. Previous studies have investigated CgA, but not CgB, as a prognostic marker in NETs.

Aim(s): The prognostic values of plasma CgB and CgA were compared in patients with midgut (MNET), bronchial (BNET) and pancreatic (PNET) NETs.

Materials and methods: Patients with histologically confirmed diagnosis of BNETs (n = 13), PNET (n = 21) and MNETs (n = 24) identified between 2001 and 2005 were included. Plasma CgA and CgB levels within six months of diagnosis were determined by RIA. Patients were divided into those with raised or normal levels of either marker at diagnosis.
