Comparison of 18F-DOPA, 68Ga-Somatostatin Analogues and 18F-FDG PET-CT in Patients with Recurrent Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma

#201

Introduction: Various PET tracers have been proposed for detection of recurrent disease in medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC). No data have been reported comparing 18F-DOPA and 68Ga-somatostin analogues (SA) in MTC.

Aim(s): To compare PET/CT with 18F-DOPA, 68Ga-SA and 18F-FDG in patients (pts) with suspected recurrent MTC, increased calcitonin levels and negative imaging.

Materials and methods: Among 30 pts previously operated for MTC and submitted to 18F-DOPA PET/CT for rapidly increasing calcitonin levels and negative imaging, nine patients (4M/5F; mean age 48.8 ys) who had performed also PET/CT with 68Ga-SA and 18F-FDG were selected. Verification of PET findings was achieved by histopathology (4 pts) and/or imaging follow-up (5 pts).
