Description and Treatment of GEP NETs in a Spanish Hospital During 10 Years

#253

Introduction: In our area the GEP NET incidence is similar to that of gastric and exocrine pancreatic cancers consequently being important to know their characteristics and the most convenient therapeutic approach.

Aim(s): To analyze the epidemiology and treatment of GEP NETs in a reference hospital for Asturias, a Spanish region with about a million inhabitants.

Materials and methods: We present a retrospective analysis of 151 patients (mean age 63 and 54% males) attended in our Medical Oncology Department from January 2000 to December 2010. The most frequent histological types were: carcinoids 59% followed by non-functioning pancreatic tumors 24%, unknown primary localization 9%, gastrinomas 4%, insulinomas 2% and vipomas 1%.
