E.L.I.O.S. (Educational Learning Investigational Observational Study): An Initial Update on Neuroendocrine Tumors (NETs) in the Southern Italy Abstract #1000

Introduction: Elios is an Educational Learning Investigational Observational Study.
Aim(s): To develop epidemiological studies and clinical trials on NET, involving five centers of Southern Italy: Federico II University of Naples, NCI of Naples, AORN Cardarelli, Naples; Casa Sollievo Hospital, S G Rotondo; Lecce City Hospital.
Materials and methods: This is an observational Italian multicenter study: data have been collected through an e-CRF and stored and processed in a centralized computer database. Both retrospective data from 2005 and prospective data from March 2012 to November 2012 were included.

#51 Epidemiology of the neuroendocrine tumors diagnosed in Cardarelli Hospital: a retrospective single-institution analysis of 274 cases
Introduction: Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are considered rare tumors and are characterized by their ability to produce peptides that cause typical hormonal syndromes. Neuroendocrine tumors consist of a wide spectrum of malignancies with different histology that can arise from distributed neuroendocrine cells in the body. Although these tumors are frequently indolent, they can be aggressive and resistant to therapy. Its incidence in the U.S.A has been rising in the last three decades (Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results registry). NETs are more common than generally believed.

#301 Medical and Peptide Receptor Radionuclide Therapy (PRRT) with Somatostatin Analogues (SSA) in Well- and Moderately Differentiated Neuroendocrine Tumors
Introduction: PRRT is a treatment choice for inoperable or metastasized neuroendocrine tumors and this therapy seems more effective in the biochemical and volume control of disease than SSA alone.

#549 Long-Acting Somatostatin Analogues are Highly Effective in Patients with Early Stage MEN-1-Related Well-Differentiated Neuroendocrine Tumors
Introduction: Somatostatin analogues (SSA) represent one of the main therapeutic options in patients affected with functioning well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumors (NET). There are no studies specifically focusing on NET associated to Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 1 (MEN-1).
