High Hepatic Tumor Burden and History of Cardiovascular Comorbidities Are Associated with Carcinoid Heart Disease: A Multicenter and Multinational Study

#2208

Introduction: While 5HT is considered the main causative agent for carcinoid heart disease (CHD, not all pts with elevated 24h-urinary 5HIAA (u5HIAA) develop CHD.

Aim(s): We aimed to investigate other prognostic factors for CHD

Materials and methods: Retrospective multicenter study of pts with advanced NET and CS and/or elevated u5HIAA who performed screening echocardiograms for CHD, which was defined as echocardiographic evidence of at least minor tricuspid thickening, stenosis or regurgitation. The prognostic independent variables were age, sex, bone metastases, functionality, u5HIAA, hepatic burden of metastases (50% or more liver involvement vs less), history of cardiovascular comorbidities
