Is Deep Enucleation of Small Pancreatic Tumors Justified?

#596

Introduction: Small, potentially benign pancreatic tumors located ≥3mm distant from the main pancreatic duct (MPD) are considered good candidates for enucleation.

Aim(s): The study evaluates the outcome after enucleation of small tumors with regard to their distance to the MPD.

Materials and methods: Clinical data, complications and outcome of prospectively documented patients with small (<30mm) pancreatic tumors who underwent enucleation were retrospectively analysed regarding the proximity to MPD. Patients were divided into two groups, either deep enucleation (DE, distance <3mm) or standard enucleation (SE, distance >3mm), which was determined by intraoperative ultrasonography (IOUS).
