Lack of Accuracy of Circulating Chromogranin A in the Preoperative Diagnosis of Lung Neuroendocrine Tumors Abstract #569

Introduction: While the role of the circulating neuroendocrine (NE) marker Chromogranin A (CgA) in the clinical management of GEP NET has been extensively discussed, the same role in thoracic NE tumors (TNET) remains to be better clarified.
Aim(s): To establish the diagnostic accuracy of CgA in the preoperative diagnosis of the NE differentiation of a nodular lesion suspect for being a TNET.
Materials and methods: The study was performed among 2,461 patients in which CgA was evaluated (CIS-Bio, normal range 19,4-98,1 ng/ml ) in 654 suspected pulmonary nodules.

Introduction: Chromogranin A (CgA) is not very accurate for the diagnosis of gastric carcinoid type1 (GC1). Clinical interpretation of CgA results may be affected by the heterogeneity between CgA assays. #105 A pilot study using biochemical markers to predict acrcinoid heart disease in patients with carcinoid disease
Introduction: Carcinoid heart disease (CHD) affects up to 15-70% of patients with carcinoid disease. Recent ENETS guidelines recommend regular echocardiographic assessment to screen for CHD. Chromogranin A (CgA) is a peptide widely used to monitor carcinoid disease progression. Neurokinin A is a tachykinin which may be a more sensitive measure of carcinoid disease progression and prognosis. N-terminal pro Brain Naturetic Peptide is used as a screening tool for heart failure and recent results suggest utility in the diagnosis of CHD.

#67 Interest of combined chromogranin A and pancreatic polypeptide for diagnosis and follow-up of gastroenteropancreatic endocrine carcinoma
Introduction: Assessment of tumor burden changes is essential for the management of well-differentiated gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine carcinoma (GEPNET). Chromogranin A (CgA) is the principal tumor marker for such tumors; however, its use to evaluate morphological tumor progression is not validated. Combined CgA and pancreatic polypeptide (PP) may increase sensitivity in the diagnosis of GEP-NET.

#11 Plasma chromogranin - A response to octreotide test: Prognostic value for clinical outcome in endocrine digestive tumors
Introduction: Gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP-NETs) expressing somatostatin receptors may be treated with somatostatin analogues (SSAs). Selection criteria are a positive Octreoscan® or a >50% hormone level decrease after octreotide s.c. injection (octreotide test) (OT). Plasma chromogranin A (CgA) is the best general GEP-NET marker, but data on CgA response to OT are scant.

#139 Association of carcinoid with noncarcinoid neoplasms
Introduction: Carcinoid tumors have a complex disease spectrum. Most have a benign clinical course, but some are aggressive, with invasive growth, metastasis and short survival. In carcinoid tumors, more than 20% are associated with noncarcinoid neoplasms. When the second tumor is a more malignant lesion, the prognosis usually is correlated more closely with the noncarcinoid malignant neoplasm.
