Misdiagnosis of Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Carcinoma - A Potential Threat

Introduction: Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PNETs) are a rare clinical entity.Very less data is available in Pakistan on PNETs.Common metastatic sites are liver, lung and brain Reports involving metastasis to breast are almost negligible.
Aim(s): Breast carcinoma is on rise in Pakistan and misdiagnosis can be fatal.We report a case of a woman with a history of pancreatic PNET, misdiagnosed as primary breast cancer.
Materials and methods: A 40-year old woman enrolled from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital Lahore.She underwent lumpectomy of her left breast, which was misdiagnosed as a triple negative, apocrine carcinoma of the breast. Clinical history was overlooked at that time.
