mTOR Expression in Primary Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors and their Metastases

#437

Introduction: The mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), an important regulator of cell proliferation and invasion, is activated in pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PNETs). Information on detailed expression of mTOR in locally advanced or metastatic PNET is poorly described.

Aim(s): To clarify the protein expression patterns of phosphorylated mTOR (p-mTOR) in primary PNETs, as well as in their lymph node and liver metastases.

Materials and methods: We investigated the expression of p-mTOR in 29 human PNETs (five NET G1, 21 NET G2, and three NEC, 16 matched lymph node metastases, and 21 liver metastases) by immunohistochemistry. We correlated our findings with clinicopathological variables.
