Neuroendocrine Tumors - Imaging Abdominal Complications

Introduction: Neuroendocrine tumors mostly arise from the gastrointestinal tract and pancreas but also from bronchopulmonary or any other organ. Abdominal complications are usually associated with the primary GI tract tumor.

Aim(s): Abdominal complications can include: local invasion, growing mass, metastases development and symptoms following overproduction of bioactive amines.

Materials and methods: The authors seek to illustrate the spectrum of these complications using data from the Outpatient NETS Group of our Institution, emphasizing the correlation of different imaging methods applied: barium contrast studies, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), endoscopic studies and Positron Emission Tomography (PET).
