Olfactory Receptor 51E1 is a Potential Novel Target for Diagnosis and Treatment of Somatostatin Receptor Negative Lung Carcinoid Patients

#675

Introduction: Somatostatin receptor (SSTR) expression may be used for diagnosis and therapy of lung carcinoids. However, novel targets are requested.

Aim(s): To investigate whether olfactory receptor 51E1 (OR51E1) is a potential target for lung carcinoids.

Materials and methods: OR51E1 coding sequence was analyzed in established NCI-H727 typical lung carcinoids (TLC) cells. Quantitative realtime PCR analysis investigated mRNA expression of OR51E1 in NCI-H727 and established atypical lung carcinoids (ALC) NCI-H720 cells. Moreover, total RNA from 12 TLCs, 9 ALCs was analyzed. OR51E1, SSTR2, 3, and 5 expression was also analyzed by immunohistochemistry (IHC) on paraffin-embedded specimens from 93 TLCs and 14 ALCs from 82 patients and compared to OctreoScan results.
