Resource Use in Patients with Carcinoid Syndrome: A Retrospective Analysis Using the French Health Insurance National (SNDS) Database

#3041

Introduction: About 20% of patients (pts) with neuroendocrine tumors (NET) suffer from carcinoid syndrome (CS), mainly from ileum and lung NET. Pts with CS experience symptoms such as diarrhea, flushes and cardiac complications. The diarrhea occurs in almost all pts with CS and can be truly debilitating. Therefore, on top of the tumor, the burden of the symptoms further impairs quality of life and is associated with additional costs related to symptom management and pts follow-up.

Aim(s): To describe resource use for CS pts using the French health insurance national database.

Materials and methods: Pts with CS have been identified in the health insurance database by combining at least one hospitalization with an ICD-10 diagnosis code of CS and one reimbursement of a somatostatin analogue. The analysis considered the cost of care reimbursed for all pts included between 2012 and 2016, based on expenses incurred by the national health insurance system, which covers around 98% of the French population. Costs including in-patient expenses (hospitalizations), and out-patient expenses related with the disease (medication, at-home nurses, biological investigations, eg 5-HIAA) and examinations (MRI, CT-Scan, TEP-DOPA / -DOTATOC, cardiac echography). Specifically, the first year after inclusion will be analyzed for all incident cases.
