Risk of Cardiovascular Events (CV) in Patients Newly Diagnosed with Neuroendocrine Tumors (NET)

#259

Introduction: NETs are malignant neoplasms capable of systemic hormone production. Oversecretion of hormones can result in many different symptoms, including CV events such as CAD, valvular disease and stroke.

Aim(s): To evaluate the incremental risk of cardiovascular events in the first three years post diagnosis, comparing NET to general non-cancer patients.

Materials and methods: A retrospective matched-control cohort study utilizing claims databases. NET patients (n=1,762) consisted of adults newly diagnosed with one of the following codes: 157.4, 209.xx, 258.01, 259.2 from 2001 to 2007. Non-cancer controls (n=3,524) were matched on age, gender, and other characteristics. CV events were analyzed using logistic regression.
