Surgical Treatment of Organic Hyperinsulinism

#420

Introduction: Successful management of patients with insulinomas depends on accurate recognition of the tumor localization and on use of appropriate surgical techniques.

Aim(s): To present our experience of surgical treatment of insulinomas.

Materials and methods: The 43 patients with insulinoma of the pancreas passed through surgery from January 2004 to August 2011. In the first group enucleation of the tumor was done on 23 patients (82.1%) and laparoscopic enucleation of the tumor on 5 patients (17.9%). In the second group, resection of the pancreas – pancreatoduodenectomy – was done on one patient (6.7%), left side pancreatectomy – seven patients (46.7%); laparoscopic left side pancreatectomy – one patient (6.7%); partial pancreatectomy – five patients (33.3%); left side subtotal pancreatectomy with liver resection - one (6.7%) patient.
