The Axon Guidance Molecules Slit2 and Robo Control Motility and Growth of Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumor Cells Abstract #770

Introduction: Dense vascularization and high frequency of metastasis in pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (pNET) suggest a central role for the interaction of tumor cells and vessels. Slit2 and its receptors Robo1 and Robo4 act as guidance cues in neurogenesis, angiogenesis and epithelial morphogenesis, and hence represent attractive candidate regulators at the tumor cell/stroma interface.
Aim(s): We studied the expression and function of Slit2 for growth, metastasis and angiogenesis of pNETs.
Materials and methods: Expression of Slit2, Robo1 and Robo4 on human pNET tissues and cell lines was determined by immunohistochemistry, qRT-PCR and immunoblotting. Transwell migration, wound healing and colony formation were evaluated as biological read-outs.

Introduction: Brain metastases are rarely reported in patients with neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC) of non-lung origin and neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) of the gastroenteropancreatic or bronchopulmonary system. Symptomatic brain metastases are associated with dismal prognosis, so early detection and treatment could be advisable.

#1707 Implication of Neuropilin-2 in the Progression of Small Intestinal Neuroendocrine Tumors: Towards a Promising Therapeutic Target?
Introduction: Small intestinal neuroendocrine tumors (siNETs) are rare tumors that raise several clinical and therapeutic challenges. Current treatments are not efficient, in part because of a poor understanding of their mechanisms of progression. We recently highlighted some axon guidance molecules (AGMs) that might be implicated in the progression of siNETs. Among them, we are currently focusing our efforts on the semaphorin 3F receptor neuropilin-2 (NRP2).
