The Relationship Between the Ki-67 Protein and IGF-Related Genes in Gastroenteropancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumor Patients with Normal and Elevated Serum Chromogranin-A Abstract #670

Introduction: GEP-NETs are rare, heterogeneous neoplasms with a distinct biological and clinical behavior. Both IGF-system and Ki-67 indices have been reported as important stimulating factors in carcinogenesis and/or tumor progression. The tumor marker CgA is an independent predictor for survival as well. Currently no data are available about a possible interaction between IGF-system (IGF(-R)s, IRs, BPs) and Ki-67 protein in GEP-NET patients with normal and elevated serum CgA.
Aim(s): To investigate a possible relationship between Ki-67 index and IGF-factors in both patient groups.
Materials and methods: mRNA-expression was measured by quantitative RT-PCR. Statistical evaluations were performed with Mann-Whitney, Spearman’s rank correlation and log rank tests.

#1543 Is True Non-Secretion of Chromogranin A an Unfavorable Prognostic Factor in Patients with ENETs TNM Stage IV Gastroenteropancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors?
Introduction: Chromogranin A (CgA) is the best available serum marker for the work-up of gastroenteropancreatic NETs (GEP-NETs) and correlates with tumor volume & biological activity. During diagnosis & follow-up we found patients with elevated CgA levels and patients without elevated CgA levels (=‘true non-secretors’). We postulated that lack of secretion is a sign of dedifferentiation with a poorer prognosis.
