Using Adult Stem-Cell Derived Organoids to Model Neuroendocrine Tumor Growth Abstract #2181

Introduction: Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are a genetically diverse set of rare tumors, which have limited treatment options. The development of more effective therapies for NETs has been limited in part by the absence of in vitro and in vivo models that accurately represent the heterogeneity of these tumors.
Aim(s): Using NET organoids, we aim to elucidate the cellular signals that drive the growth of these tumors and to thereby identify novel therapeutic strategies for NETs.
Materials and methods: Through an ongoing collaboration with the University Medical Centre in Utrecht (UMCU) and the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Netherlands Cancer Institute, the two ‘centers of excellence’ for NET patients in the Netherlands, we have begun building a biobank of NET organoids derived from intestinal (intNET) and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor (pNET) tissue and matched, adjacent normal tissue.
