Treatment, Survival and Prognostic Markers in Patients with Thymic Carcinoids: A Clinicopathologic Study of 28 Cases

Introduction: Thymic carcinoids are uncommon but malignant tumors, usually associated with a poor prognosis. The number of cases reported is limited to a few hundred and there are few prognostic factors available.

Aim(s): To perform a retrospective analysis of prognostic factors, therapy and prognosis in all patients (n=28) with thymic carcinoids treated at the Department of Endocrine Oncology, Uppsala University Hospital, Sweden.

Materials and methods: There were six women and 22 men with a median age of 50 years at diagnosis. Median follow up time was 71 months (range 6-235).
