Endoscopic Ultrasound-Guided Fine Needle Tissue Acquisition (EUS-FNTA) Using a 19-G Needle for Histological Grading of Pancreatic Endocrine Tumors (PETs): A Prospective Study Abstract #543

Introduction: EUS-FNTA is increasingly used in the diagnosis of pancreatic endocrine tumors (PETs). Ki-67 expression, an important prognostic factor according to the WHO classification, is difficult to be determined on cytological specimens.
Aim(s): We prospectively evaluated the feasibility and yield of EUS-FNTA to obtain tissue samples for histological diagnosis and Ki-67 expression in patients with suspected PETs.
Materials and methods: Twenty-five consecutive patients with suspicious PETs underwent, between August 2009 and September 2010, EUS-FNTA using a 19G needle. The collected specimens were placed directly in formalin for histological examination. Overall, EUS-FNTA could be performed in all patients without complications.

#135 The importance of endoscopic ultrasound in detecting recurrent gastrinoma in a case of MEN 1
Introduction: Approximately 25-30% of patients have gastrinomas as part of the inherited syndrome Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia 1 (MEN 1). Gastrinomas occur in the pancreas, duodenum or peripancreatic lymph nodes. Diagnosis is made by clinical history, gastroscopy, and measurement of serum gastrin, gastric juice pH, CT scan, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and somatostatin receptor scintigraphy (SRS). Localization of gastrinomas in patients with MEN 1 is challenging due to their small size, frequent duodenal location, and multiplicity.

#126 Assessment of the proliferation marker Ki-67 by endoscopic ultrasound guided-Fine Needle Aspiration (EUS-FNA) in pancreatic endocrine tumors: A comparative analysis with histology of the surgical specimen
Introduction: Assessment of the proliferative index by Ki-67 immuno-labelling is an important prognostic parameter for the biologic behavior of digestive neuroendocrine tumors, usually established on the histological specimen obtained after surgery or macro-biopsy. However, small pancreatic endocrine tumors (PET) are more and more often recognized by CT/MRI and diagnosed by EUS. The value of Ki-67 labelling index (Ki-67-LI) on fine needle aspiration (FNA) is not well-established in this setting, although regularly assessed.

#518 CK19 and KIT Immunostaining is a Useful Adjunct to Ki-67-Based Grading of Pancreatic NET: A Study on Matched Cytological and Histological Samples
Introduction: Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (NET) are rare neoplasms. Recent evidence suggests that Ki-67 staining predicts their behavior. Even more recently, a prognostic role has been proposed also for CK19 and KIT. This panel might guide patient management. CK19 and KIT have not yet been evaluated on NET on Fine needle aspiration samples (FNAs).
