News: EBNENM Exams in 2026!
Dear EBNENM trainees,
Below you will find some general information pertaining to EBNENM examinations.
Please read through (1) the application form and (2) the exam regulations and appeals process carefully and do not miss out applying for this year's exam! Information on exam fees can be found on this page.
Examination dates in 2026:
Applications are now open until 3 February 2026 (23:59 CET).
- 4 March 2026: Part 1 - the written examination - will take place during ENETS 2026 in Kraków, Poland.
- 5 & 6 March 2026: Part 2 - the oral examination - will take place during ENETS 2026 in Kraków, Poland.
Eligibility requirements:
To apply for the EBNENM examination, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a medical degree (e.g. a medical doctor who has completed general professional training)
- Have completed a fellowship or equivalent in a relevant area of competence. Candidates must hold a national qualification in their specialty (e.g. a board certification in Gastroenterology) before entering the programme (Specialist in NEN Medicine).
- Have completed at least 2 years of competency training in an accredited programme at an ENETS Center of Excellence (CoE) or at an institution that provides services for NEN patients at a level equivalent to that of an ENETS Center of Excellence.
- Competences must be documented in a logbook, with entries signed off by the accredited training director.
Eligibility assessment:
The eligibility assessment consists of two steps:
- First step: Applicants must submit their application to the ENETS Office following the procedure outlined on the website. They must also pay the eligibility fee (€200.00) for their application to be reviewed by the Examination Board. Only complete applications will proceed to the second step of the assessment.
- Second step: Candidates will be notified if their application is successful and invited to take the EBNENM exam at the next available date. All applicants will be informed of their status within one month of the submission deadline.
Candidates who pass the eligibility assessment will be required to pay the examination fee to finalise their registration. This fee must be paid to complete the registration process and be considered by the Examination Board.
Apply now to sit the EBNENM exam in 2026:
Candidates should submit the following documents when applying for the EBNENM exam:
- EBNENM logbook with signed entries (a signature from one person in the expert centre will suffice, despite the different disciplines).
- Proof of training in a European Center.
- Two letters of recommendation from trainers (training completed in Europe).
- An updated CV.
- Proof of national board certification.
- A duly completed and signed Application Form.
- A scanned copy of candidate’s ID card or passport, showing the candidate’s photo and name in Latin letters.

Eligibility criteria for examinees
Potential examinees should have completed competency training for 2 years in an accredited program in ENETS Centers of Excellence or in an institution providing service for NEN patients on the level of a ENETS Centers of Excellence. The competences of the examinee should be collected in the logbook and signed of by the accredited training director.
Examination procedure
The EU Board Exam in NEN Medicine aims to provide a structured test for qualification as NEN Specialist. The successful candidates will gain a European Certificate in NEN, which is intended to be the main knowledge-based assessment tool for training across Europe and ultimately for all continent’s experts, with the aim of establishing world class-leading standards in that competency throughout all countries. This European Board in Neuroendocrine Neoplasia Medicine examination is an assessment in knowledge in core clinical NEN conditions and tests knowledge in the areas of relevant science and clinical practice, including diagnosis, investigation, interpretation, prevention and treatment as described in the logbook.
Recommended resources for learning can be found in the Resources section of the website, including e-learnings, webinars and current guidelines. Trainees are advised to attend (inter-)national conferences and acquire up-to-date knowledge on the latest research developments in the field of NEN.
The exam is written/oral in nature and consists of two parts on two consecutive days:
Part 1: Written exam (multiple choice questions):
- Held in a separate, secure examination room.
- The exam is paper-based and consist of 50 multiple choice questions.
- The duration of the exam will not exceed 75 minutes.
- The written exam accounts for 40% of the total score.
Candidates must achieve the minimum standard in the multiple-choice exam to proceed to Part 2, which is held on the following day.
Part 2: Oral exam:
- The oral exam accounts for 60% of the total score.
- Clinical scenarios from the curriculum will be assessed.
- Non-technical skills, such as obtaining consent and communication, as well as the critical appraisal of a publication, will also be tested.
The Examination Board will convene after the exams to determine whether candidates have passed. Candidates must meet the pass mark to successfully complete the examination.
Exam fees
The total fee for the EBNENM Examination is €800.00, which includes:
- €200.00 for the eligibility assessment.
- €600.00 for the examination.
Payments must be made via wire transfer directly to ENETS before the deadline.
- The eligibility fee is payable at the time of registration.
- The examination fee must be paid within two weeks of eligibility confirmation to finalise registration.

Examiners
Examiners play a key role in ensuring the quality and integrity of the European Board Examination in Neuroendocrine Neoplasia Medicine. They must be actively involved in NEN medicine in Europe and be familiar with the EBNENM training framework, including the European Training Requirements (ETR), the logbook and the assessment structure. Examiners are required to have completed training in the application of the examination tools and must be current Fellows of the European Board in Neuroendocrine Neoplasia Medicine.
