A Case of Primary Hepatic Carcinoid Tumor Misdiagnosed as Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC)

Introduction: Carcinoid tumors generally occur in the gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts. Primary carcinoid tumor of the liver is very rare. It may be misdiagnosed as hepatocellular carcinoma, which is very common.
Aim(s): We report a case of primary hepatic carcinoid tumor which was initially misdiagnosed as Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in a liver biopsy.
Materials and methods: A 38-year-old male presented with epigastric pain. Abdominal CT scan revealed a large mass in the left liver lobe and liver biopsy showed HCC. Viral markers were negative. AFP was normal. Upper GI endoscopy revealed a doudenal ulcer (PUD). Colonoscopy was reported normal. Patient underwent left liver lobe resection. Pathology and IHC revealed a carcinoid tumor.
