Brain Metastases in Neuroendocrine Tumor Patients: Frequency and Outcome
#825
Introduction: Brain metastases are rarely reported in patients with neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC) of non-lung origin and neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) of the gastroenteropancreatic or bronchopulmonary system. Symptomatic brain metastases are associated with dismal prognosis, so early detection and treatment could be advisable.
Aim(s): To analyze frequency, origin, treatment and outcome of brain metastases in a single centre cohort of NET and non-lung NEC patients.
Materials and methods: In 1998, we established a database for patients with NETs and NECs of gastroenteropancreatic or unknown origin. We searched this clinical database for all patients with documented brain metastases.
