Carcinoid heart disease in Chilean NET patients with malignant carcinoid syndrome: Long-term cohort from a developing country

#3272

Introduction: Carcinoid heart disease (CHD) is an important cause of morbidity in patients with Neuroendocrine Tumors (NET) and could be associated with poorer prognosis. There is scarce data about CHD in low and middle-income countries, and its impact has not been studied in Latin American patients.

Aim(s): We aim to characterise CHD and its association with survival in a cohort of Chilean patients.

Materials and methods: We conducted a longitudinal cohort study. According to estimated annual incidence of Carcinoid Syndrome (CS) in Chile, the first 26 CS patients enrolled in the national registry of NET were evaluated. Echocardiographic assessments were conducted at diagnosis and follow up. Overall survival (OS) was evaluated by Kaplan-Meier estimator, with a median follow up of 91.5 (45-226) months.
