Carcinoid heart disease in patients with carcinoid syndrome and metastatic small intestinal neuroendocrine tumours: A single centre experience
#4548
Introduction: Carcinoid heart disease (CHD) is a significant complication of carcinoid syndrome (CS) in patients with small intestinal neuroendocrine tumours (SINET). Management is complex and more data is needed.
Aim(s): To describe frequency, clinical parameters, management and prognostic impact of CHD in patients with biochemically confirmed CS and advanced SINET.
Materials and methods: Our database identified 335 patients with metastatic SINET up to 2024. 70 patients had biochemical conformation of CS. 20 patients had right sided valve changes which could represent CHD. A second opinion by expert cardiologist confirmed only 13 cases of established CHD. Clinical records were studied. We obtained approval from the audit committee at our institute. Statistical analysis was carried out using SPSS.
