Comprehensive molecular analysis of prognostic groups in Neuroendocrine Neoplasms (NENs) identifies key genes and potential regulatory mechanisms

#3513

Introduction: MiRNAs are key regulators of multiple molecular processes, including tumorigenesis and cancer progression. However, very few studies have assessed their role in NENs. In a previous study, we identified a miRNA signature that defined 3 prognostic groups in 86 patients with lung and gastroenteropancreatic (GEP) NENs. Here, we explore up- and downstream mechanisms underlying this miRNA signature.

Aim(s): To perform a comprehensive analysis of the molecular mechanisms involved in the 8-miRNA prognostic signature in NENs.

Materials and methods: Gene expression (n = 63) and DNA methylation (n = 30) data were obtained from patients with lung and GEP NENs. Pearson correlation between miRNA and gene expression data and Cox regression were applied to evaluate genes involved in this signature. Similarly, correlation analysis between miRNAs expression and CpG sites within regulatory regions was also performed to evaluate epigenetic modulation of the 8-miRNA signature.
