Early Detection of Gastric GIST Tumor in a Patient with Rectal Neuroendocrine Cancer – A Case Report

Introduction: A case of a 60-year-old man with rectal neuroendocrine cancer, in whom gastric GIST tumor was detected in March 2009, is presented.

Aim(s): The symptoms began in 2006: pain in the abdomen, urge to urinate, weight loss (13 kg per year). In May 2007 rectal tumor was found and confirmed in CT.

Materials and methods: In July 2007, patient underwent anterior resection of rectum; histopathological examination - well-differentiated neuroendocrine carcinoma, Ki-67 10%. Somatostatin receptor scintigraphy revealed many liver and a few bone foci. In serum elevated level of Cg A. Patient was treated with octreotide LAR, with good clinical effect.
