Expression of UCH-L1 in PETs and its Implications
#413
Introduction: There is a lack of reliable biomarkers to distinguish benign from malignancy in pancreatic endocrine tumors (PETs) and to predict prognosis. Our previous study on insulinoma found the expression of UCH-L1 in these tumors. The diagnostic or prognostic value of this protein has not been well demonstrated in PETs.
Aim(s): To identify UCH-L1 expression in PETs and its clinical implications, to study the epigenetic mechanism underlying UCH-L1 expression.
Materials and methods: Two-hundred and twenty-six PETs from 221 patients and 79 paired tissues were studied and 167 pts were followed. Immunohistochemistry staining (IHC) was used to test protein expression. Methylation of UCH-L1 promoter was tested by MSP and sequencing. Chi-square, Kaplan-Meier analysis and logistic regression were used for statistical analysis.
