Factors influencing emergency admissions in patients with neuroendocrine neoplasms (NEN) in England 2016-2017

#4016

Introduction: Diagnostic delays in neuroendocrine neoplasms (NEN) are common, with NENs presenting as emergencies in a subset of cases. Emergency presentations (EP) may cause poor outcomes and should be avoided.

Aim(s): Identify factors associated with EP of patients with NENs and compare survival outcomes between EP and routine presentations.

Materials and methods: 5857 NEN patients were identified in the NCRAS database from 2016-2017. Multivariate logistic regression analyses were conducted to explore factors influencing EP. Subgroup analyses of appendix, lung, pancreas, small bowel, and stomach tumour sites were performed. Using Kaplan-Meier estimator and log-rank test, survival was compared between groups and the hazard ratio (HR) estimated with Cox-regression analysis.
