Gastrointestinal neuroendocrine tumors: tumor characteristics and long-term clinical outcome in the German NET registry

#134

Introduction: Prognosis of neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) has been difficult to predict due to heterogenous tumor biology, various classification systems, and lack of reliable and recent data due to the rarity of these tumors.

Aim(s): In a nationwide survey of data from NETs diagnosed only since 1999, the German registry for gastrointestinal NETs (G-NET-Reg) has strived to accumulate and analyze factors which influence prognosis in NETs.

Materials and methods: The G-NET-Reg collected data from patients with histologically proven NET. Epidemiological, histopathological and clinical data, as well as information on overall and NET-specific outcome, were obtained and analyzed.
