Gender role in the authorship of Italian academic medical literature on neuroendocrine neoplasms: Cliché or reality?

#3930

Introduction: There is an increasing attention to gender equality in the medical setting. While males have dominated the physician lines over the last decades the recent female doctors’ number increasing might reduce this gender gap. However, this may be not true in the academic area.

Aim(s): To analyze the gender distribution of first/senior Italian authors on neuroendocrine neoplasm (NEN)-related papers published on peer reviewed journals.

Materials and methods: PubMed bibliographical search to identify NEN literature published from January 2019 to September 2023. Inclusion criteria: Papers with Italian first and/or senior authors.
