Histopathological Revision for Gastroenteropancreatic Neuroendocrine Neoplasms in Expert Centers: Does It Make the Difference?
#2046
Introduction: A proportion of gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (GEP-NENs) referred to NEN expert centers need a histopathological revision.
Aim(s): To describe the clinical impact of histopathological revision for referred GEP-NEN patients.
Materials and methods: Retrospective multicenter analysis including all GEP-NENs receiving a histopathological revision required by the institutional tumor boards of 7 European NEN expert centers (Jan 2016‒Dec 2016). Primary endpoint: to evaluate the impact of histopathological revision on patient management (indication to new medical treatment, to surgery, to further imaging tests). Secondary endpoint: to describe the changes in the histopathological diagnosis. The study was developed by the "Knowledge Network" Group. The histopathological revision was performed by a "Histopathology Consortium", including the pathologists with an experience in the NET field at each site.
