Increase of Ki-67 Index over Time and Influence on All-Cause Mortality in Patients with Neuroendocrine Neoplasms (NEN)

Introduction: Increase of Ki-67 index in NEN over time in relation to progression and a potential influence on prognosis is scarcely studied.

Aim(s): The aims of the study were to investigate if Ki-67 index increases in patients with radiologically confirmed progressive disease according to the Response Evaluation Criteria In Solid Tumors (RECIST) and if an increase in Ki-67 influenced the prognosis.

Materials and methods: We included 112 patients from January 1st 1995 to October 31st 2019 with verified progression. A new biopsy from the patient’s tumor or metastasis was obtained. Significantly increased Ki-67 index was defined as more than a doubling in Ki-67 index compared to baseline. Patients were followed with regard to all-cause mortality.
