Increasing compliance of an oral oncolytic through a novel clinical nurse educator model

#3276

Introduction: A patient education platform to help navigate medication coordination and symptom management leads to improved adherence and effective patient-HCP communication. Historically, cancer patients have lower rates of oral therapy adherence (~16%) versus patients receiving infusion therapy.

Aim(s): TerSera Therapeutics supports oral oncology patients via a Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) program at pharmacy dispensing in the first 3 months of treatment and continued support by in-house CNEs guiding patients through treatment education and integration of treatment into the patient’s lifestyle.

Materials and methods: CNEs engage with HCPs at academic and local cancer centers providing information about the nursing support program (NSP). This service is a complimentary, opt-in for patients via an enrollment website. The program reduces calls to HCPs regarding medication administration questions. CNEs provide education to clinics where NETs are less frequently treated. Topics discussed include: (1) drug MOA and potential SEs; (2) disease education; (3) nutritional education; (4) patient support. All discussions are consistent with the label with no medical advice provided.
