Is non-operative management of small asymptomatic sporadic nonfunctioning pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors safe?

#3437

Introduction: The diagnosis of asymptomatic sporadic nonfunctioning pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (NF-PNET) has increased significantly nowadays due to the widespread use of high-resolution imaging tests, which is why it is debated which should be the most appropriate management at the time of diagnosis, and how we should follow-up these patients.

Aim(s): The objective of this study is to analyse the evolution of patients diagnosed incidentally with small-sized NF-PNET, submitted to clinical follow-up, in terms of survival, progression of loco-regional disease or the appearance of metastases.

Materials and methods: We carried out a retrospective review of a database collected between January 2008 -December 2020 of patients with incidental diagnosis of small NF-PNET. We record the imaging tests performed at the time of diagnosis and long-term follow-up.
