Laparoscopic vs. Open Resection of Pancreatic Endocrine neoplasms: A Review

#166

Introduction: Laparoscopic techniques are used to treat a vast range of surgical diseases, but reports on laparoscopic resection of pancreatic endocrine neoplasms (PET) remain limited to small series.

Aim(s): To compare the laparoscopic and open resection of PET and to investigate the feasibility and safety of this technique.

Materials and methods: Medline search was performed for the words laparoscopic resection and pancreatic endocrine neoplasms. Fifty-one relevant papers from 2000 until 2010 were identified and studied. Three non-randomized studies comparing laparoscopic and open approach for resection of PET (insulinoma) were retrieved comprising a total of 64 patients - 35 laparoscopic and 29 open.
